Program Note

“Plasticking” takes inspiration from the concept of “musicking” and the prevalence of plastic in our world. Like “musicking,” which encompasses various musical activities, “plasticking” symbolizes the close relationship between our lives and plastic, which has become omnipresent in our daily existence.

Plastic has woven itself into the fabric of our routines, permeating every aspect of our lives. Its influence is seemingly inescapable, making even the simplest actions reliant on its presence. However, the convenience of plastic has exacted a significant toll on our planet, particularly on nature and the fragile ecosystems it supports.

Through “Plasticking,” I embarked on an exploration of this intricate connection. By capturing sounds from discarded plastic waste in my daily life and blending them with glass sounds, I crafted the music for this piece.

The composition serves as a critique of our reliance on plastic and laments the current state of affairs. It beckons us to take action, urging listeners to engage in conversations about breaking free from lives overwhelmed by plastic.

Beyond its artistic expression, “Plasticking” prompts contemplation on the feasibility of living without plastic. It impels us to reflect on the bond between our lives and this material, igniting inspiration for a sustainable future.

By contemplating the possibility of a world less entangled with plastic, we can collectively strive towards preserving the environment and nurturing a healthier coexistence with nature.
